Accelerated Bachelor-Master of Science in Economics and Policy Analysis

BA/MS-EPA and BSC/MS-EPA


This is an accelerated degree program which allows strong undergraduate economics majors to complete both the undergraduate degree in Economics (either BA or BSC) and the MS-EPA in 5 years.  Students will apply to the program during their junior year and will take three graduate level courses during their senior year.  The three courses are ECO 505 Advanced Microeconomics, ECO 515 Microeconomics of Market Organizations, and ECO 507 Research Methods for Policy Analysis I.  These three courses will count towards completion of the BA in Economics or BSC in Economics and will also count towards completion of the MS-EPA.  The undergraduate degree will be awarded at the completion of all undergraduate work while the MS-EPA will be awarded upon completion of the remaining graduate level work.

Program Requirements


In order to be eligible for this accelerated program, the applicant must satisfy each of the following conditions:
  • Cumulative GPA 3.25 or better
  • Must have taken and passed with a course grade of C- or better unless otherwise noted:
    • ECO 105 Principles of Microeconomics
    • ECO 106 Principles of Macroeconomics
    • ECO 305 Intermediate Microeconomics (grade B or better)
    • ECO 306 Intermediate Macroeconomics (grade B or better)
    • MAT 135 Business Calculus I or equivalent
    • MAT 136 Business Calculus II or equivalent
    • MAT 137 Business Statistics or equivalent
Students may apply to the program while enrolled in these classes.  In this case, students may be issued conditional acceptances subject to satisfactory completion of the required courses.


How to Apply

Applications for the Accelerated Bachelor-Master of Science in Economics and Policy Analysis are accepted during Spring quarter of each academic year.  Interested Economics majors with Junior standing are eligible to apply to the program.  Please note the requirements for admission to the accelerated program before submitting your application.

Application forms are also available in the Economics Department.  All forms must be returned to the Economics Department.

Applications are due by May 15 of each year.

Students will be notified of their admission to the program by July 1.
